The retrospective edit concludes with an exciting sneak peek at Digger. The brief footage reveals a physical transformation for the actor as he steps into the role of a character named Digger Rockwell.

What the ‘Digger’ footage shows

In the sneak peek, which comes after three minutes of retrospective footage of some of Cruise’s most beloved performances, we see the actor as Digger, an elderly and unsightly billionaire jumping around, with mere glimpses of Cruise’s transformation.

The story finds Digger reckoning with a global natural disaster that he caused.

A 35mm VistaVision epic, penned by Inarritu alongside his Birdman collaborators Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, and acclaimed playwright Sabina Berman, Digger looks set to find Cruise in out-and-out comedy territory for the first time since Tropic Thunder.

In the footage, Cruise’s character Digger Rockwell delivers the line: “When all else fails, you hit ’em with the truth. Hit ’em with the hard truth. Just, bang bang bang!”

Cruise also posted on X: “Bang, bang, bang! Trailer drops July 13th.”

About ‘Digger’

Digger making has a budget of $125 million and also stars Jesse Plemons, Sandra Huller, Riz Ahmed, and Sophie Wilde. Michael Stuhlbarg is also part of the cast. The film is described as a comedy of catastrophic proportions.

Cruise’s last appearance in a film was in 2025’s Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning, in which he portrayed IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Digger marks his return to screens after more than a year away.

Because of Inarritu’s history at the Academy Awards, with a Best Picture win and back-to-back Best Director Oscars, Digger has been a potential awards contender and one that could earn Cruise his fourth acting Oscar nomination.
